After School Art Classes
At Auckland schools

Our after-school art classes are designed to help children build both creative skills and confidence over time through consistent weekly practice.

Children explore a wide range of techniques including drawing, painting, colour mixing, design, and mixed media. Based on the chosen theme each month (more info below). They learn how to use different materials such as inks, watercolours, acrylics, oil pastels and collage to express their ideas.

Alongside these practical skills, children develop creative thinking, problem solving and the ability to make independent choices in their work. They learn to experiment, take risks, and trust their ideas in a supportive environment.

Over time, this regular creative practice helps children build focus, resilience and confidence — skills that extend far beyond the art room.

Our experienced educators guide children through a variety of creative exercises and techniques, encouraging them to problem solve and trust in their own creative abilities and authentic, expressive voice.

All bookings are for the entire term and should be made prior to term start in Week 2.

Free Trials:
One free trial class per child. Free trials are only for families that haven't attended a Creative Matters holiday workshop, After School class or received a free trial during a previous term. Artists tell many stories in many different ways.

This term we will explore and experiment with ideas of stories in art inspired by artists Richard Killeen (NZ) James Rizzi  (US) and John Pule (NZ).

We will create works of art that tell personal stories in different ways: of family, culture, important events and identity  through the use of symbols such as objects, colour, scale, composition, scale, line, shape and pattern.  We will explore and develop visual arts skills and techniques such as painting, colour making, drawing and designing - using inks, dyes, acrylic paint, pencil, oil pastels, watercolour pencils and mixed media.
