After School Art Classes
Our after-school art classes are designed to be educational and help children build both creative skills and confidence over time through consistent weekly practice.
During our sessions, we explore a wide range of Aotearoa and International artists; both contemporary and traditional across a span of various creative practice. Children are exposed to learning about real life artists, their methods of working, inspiration and techniques. Children will explore a wide range of creative modality including drawing, painting, colour mixing, design, sculpture and mixed media. Based on the chosen theme each term (more info below). They learn how to work with different materials such as inks, watercolours, acrylics, oil pastels, clay, paper-mache and collage to express their ideas.
Alongside these practical skills, children develop creative thinking, problem solving and the ability to make independent choices in their work. They learn to experiment, take risks, and trust their ideas in a supportive and calm environment. Over time, this regular creative practice helps children build focus, resilience and confidence — skills that extend far beyond the art room.
Our experienced educators guide children through a variety of creative exercises and techniques, encouraging them to problem solve and trust in their own creative abilities and authentic, expressive voice.
During the term:

Children will work towards completing 2-4 projects or final artworks

Explore the art and techniques of at least 2-4 various artists

Sketchbooks can be purchased for $15 to contain all children's artwork each week, alternatively children will be encouraged to make a folder for their weekly process, sketches and artwork

Some schools will allow an end-of-term art-gallery presentation. We will contact parents about this if so.
Please note:
Our art classes are designed for children who are interested in art and who are capable of focusing on a creative project for a 1.5hr Art session after a full day of school (with breaks of course). Please ensure your child is interested in the term project. If you are booking in a 5 year old, please make sure they are up to working in this way for a whole day.

Classes cost $31.00 per session and are billed for the remainder of the term, cost may fluctuate slightly depending on the no. of weeks.

This term, students will explore landscapes through the work of Aotearoa artists Christine Lang, Raewyn Harris, Flox (Hayley King) and Tallulah Nunez. Across the nine weeks they will build confidence with acrylic and watercolour painting, sketching, colour mixing, layering, shadows, texture, pattern, stencil-making and intuitive mark making.
Students will create a series of artworks ranging from realistic landscapes to bold birds and foliage and richly patterned abstract scenes, with an optional mixed-media landscape extension using painted papers, collage and textured materials.
The focus throughout the term is on developing strong foundational painting skills while encouraging each child to experiment, make creative choices and develop their own individual artistic style.
