bookings are still open to join mid-term

This term, take yourself on a journey around the world as you discover international artists and the special styles they use which reflect the culture and country they come from. Explore the traditional Chinese imagery which influenced the ‘chinoiserie design’ of the Blue Willow China found in people’s kitchen cupboards. Pop over to Africa as you learn about artist BJ Broekhuizen and his captivating portraits. Fly down to the southern hemisphere and immerse yourself in the cultural styles of Aboriginal paintings by Minnie Pwerle, Samoan Tapa Cloths, and Maori artist Shane Hansen’s prints and paintings. Upskill across the board in drawing, painting, pastel, dye and ink application in an exciting variety of masterpieces.

Term 3 2024: Tell Me a Story

Artists tell many stories in many different ways.  This term we will explore and experiment with ideas of stories in art inspired by artists Richard Killeen (NZ) James Rizzi  (US) and John Pule (NZ).  We will create works of art that tell personal stories in different ways: of family, culture, important events and identity  through the use of symbols such as objects, colour, scale, composition, scale, line, shape and pattern.  We will explore and develop visual arts skills and techniques such as painting, colour making, drawing and designing - using inks, dyes, acrylic paint, pencil, oil pastels, watercolour pencils and watercolour paint, mixed media.
