Creative Matters Term 3 Update

Professional Development Courses + Community Projects -

Our cross curricular visual arts courses are a wonderful therapeutic way for teachers to get creative together, build relationships and get inspired. As well as learn visual arts skills and how to link them to other parts of the curriculum!

Exploring the Creative Process

Teachers are taken through a rich creative process of exploring, experimenting, reflecting, sharing and creating with a focus on a visual arts area of your choice:

  • Painting and colour making

  • Cardboard sculpture and paper maché

  • Exploring an artist as a starting point for art making

  • Printmaking

  • 3D sculpture using a recycled bottle and paper maché

  • Customised to your needs

A New Look School Art Exhibition - Celebrating the whole creative process

I'm currently working with Grey Lynn School teachers to create a school art exhibition like no other!

Instead of only showing final artworks in one space, classes will record all the parts of the creative process leading up to the final paintings on their classroom walls - linking to literacy and other parts of the curriculum.

Students will lead whanau around their classroom to share their learning, experiences and work, explain all parts of the process and then visit other classrooms to explore their processes and creations.

I personally think this is the way to go for all school art exhibitions - giving students opportunities to really think creatively and critically, learn skills and techniques and express themselves in unique ways through visual art.

PLD and an art Installation for your school!

Choose your focus and together we can come up with a collaborative art installation for your school created by the staff and children. I will work with your teachers to show them the process and the ideas around creating an installation or sculpture at a staff meeting then they can take the learning to their students.

The perfect way to enhance your school environment and learn at the same time!

Online PLD via Zoom for small groups of teachers

Surprisingly, our online courses achieve the same good vibes and results as our PD in schools and have been very popular. And the best thing is we can facilitate our PD all over Aotearoa! This last course was over 4 staff meetings with 7 teachers from East Taieri School near Dunedin.

CREATIVES IN SCHOOLS:

2022 Mural Project at Helensville Primary School

Watch the mural making process from beginning to end!

Mural Project at Kumeu Arts - Mural for the People

I worked with 12 talented art students aged 10 - 13 from 5 West Auckland schools to create an amazing mural for the Kumeu Arts building #smilekumeu to celebrate the Kumeu Arts community and capture big happy smiles to cheer everyone up! Generously supported by Creative Communities Auckland.

6 of these paintings have been placed around the Kumeu/Muriwai community to add to the anticipation for the big reveal September 16th 2022 from 5pm at Kumeu Arts. So if you spot one take a photo #smilekumeu on Instagram!

My goal is to build long term positive connections with schools around Aotearoa and help teachers to bring creativity to children in a way that feels accessible, inspiring, engaging and fun.

Please get in touch by email if you'd like to discuss your options and check out our socials for lots of inspiring visual art ideas and resources.
