Holiday workshops were run at the Surf Club in Muriwai for one week in January. So fun! Workshops included mask making out of recycled materials, geometric pattern making using tiny grid paper, designing and painting tote bags with the coolest selection of fabric paint and creating powerful patterns on giant brown paper. The children loved the challenge of something new and enjoyed using materials and paper sizes they hadn't used before. I find the workshops in the holidays to be really relaxed, especially with our limits on class sizes, and the children make nice connections with others in the community. Two of the children were new to the community and met children who were going to be in the same class as them this year. So nice for them to know someone when they arrive on the first day of school. I love the conversations we have as we work - almost like the old days of sitting around the dinner table! I try to make the activities fun and challenging, using a variety of tools, materials and techniques to create something the children love and can't wait to take home..
